Improving Your Health

When it comes to health and fitness, there are many hurdles (get it?) in our path. The modern lifestyle is riddled with pitfalls that threaten our well being, but these insidious threats are hard to fight because they are the result of luxury and convenience. So, how do we fight these threats? First of all, we have to know these threats, because knowing is half the battle. However, commitment and determination will win the day here, and there’s just no way around hard work and willpower when it comes to improving your health. Here are some tips to help you lead a healthier and happier life.

First and foremost, let’s talk about sitting. We sit too much and too often. We sit at work, we sit during travel, and we sit for recreation, and it’s weakening our core muscles. This can cause hernias, chronic back pain, depression, and more. Therefore, we need to be more active. For starters, we need to spend more time standing instead of sitting. A standing desk, or a convertible desk, helps tremendously at the office, for example, and getting up off the couch periodically does wonder. You’ll also want to spend more time walking instead of driving. One way to make this more fun and accessible is to take a hike (literally). Just don’t forget your Samsung cell phone, just in case you run into trouble.

Next, there’s diet. The American diet is rich in processed foods, which, while affordable and convenient, is chock full of additives that rob them of nutrition, so it’s best to replace them with home cooked meals made with fresh ingredients. While this will cost you more in time and money, it will be worth it when you start to have more energy, lost excess weight, and generally feel better in no time.
